Update from KRRA Chair

2025.04.04

I wanted to reach out to all members of the Kingston Road Runners Association (KRRA) and update you about some of the exciting things that have been happening within the club.

My name is Dalton Cote and I have been the Chair of the KRRA since January 2025. I am a long-time resident of Kingston and have a wide background in participating in all types of endurance events. I am excited to be working alongside a lot of incredibly motivated and talented fellow KRRA Board members that do so much behind the scenes for the KRRA. The KRRA is a non-profit organization that exists to support you, its members, and our local running community. We are focused on being community based and providing running experiences of value. We plan to reach out to all of you over the next months to ensure that we continue to stay true to our history while looking at ways to always improve. I can always be reached at the following email chair.krra@gmail.com .

Some of the highlights from the last few months include:

  • The purchase of a timing system so that the KRRA could continue to have access to a modern and affordable timing system that was available for our desired race dates. There were no longer any local timing services and those services available were becoming prohibitively expensive. This was a big investment for the Club but will allow us to keep our race fees stable when many other races have had to raise their fees tocover costs.
  • We have developed a detailed sponsorship framework that ensures that we have a fair, transparent and objective framework to attract sponsors and ensure value for their important contributions to our races.
  • We have conducted two successful 2025 events: The Resolution and Twosome runs that saw a growth in entrants and were great events for all involved. Unfortunately, there is no Howe Island or Beat Beethoven race planned this year so they will not be part of the race series and there will be no Tri-Island Series. The 2025 KRRA race series can be found on the Race Series Calendar

However, I am very happy to announce some really exciting news for the upcoming Limestone Race Weekend (LRW). The LRW, hosted by the KRRA, is historic Kingston’s largest annual running event. Choose from the 5K, Waterfront 10K or the Historic Half Marathon race. There is even a 2K Tom Compton Memorial Run for kids. After many months of planning and coordination with the City of Kingston and other partners, we can now officially announce that the 2025 LRW half marathon route will transit through the famous Kingston penitentiary, not once, but twice. This is a unique opportunity to see some of the inside parts of the prison grounds while competing in this event. The race medals and t-shirts for all LRW events will incorporate some exciting new designs with a focus on the historic Kingston Penitentiary.

Information on the LRW races can be found at here. LRW Registration can be found at this Trackie link. LRW Volunteers are always needed and can sign up here.

I look forward to seeing all of you participating and/or assisting at upcoming events. Cheers,

Dalton.
