KRRA
Kingston Kids Running Series
Encouraging good habits in youth is so important. The KRRA is in the unique position to foster a youth running community.
The KINGSTON KIDS RUNNING SERIES (KKRS) is a new annual Series providing a community for youth runners, year ‘round. While most sports are seasonal, running can be enjoyed all year, with cross country, and track. Running can be a competitive sport, a cross-training tool for other sports, and great for general fitness. More importantly, running is a fun, healthy, life-long habit to develop.
Race Series
The KKRS is the promotion and participation of KRRA kids running events, already included in the KRRA RACE SERIES.
- Tommy Compton Memorial 2K – Limestone Race Weekend
- Howe Island Hustle 1-Miler
- Beat Beethoven 1K Run
- Napanee Heritage 1-Miler ($15)*
- Kingston Ktown Kids Triathlon
- Limestone Mile
- Wolfe Island Classic 1-Miler
- Wooly Bully Kids Race
- Kids XC Run – 5KXC
- Anniversary Run XC Mile
Young runners would sign up and participate for at least SIX of the TEN running events over the course of the year. Those who complete SIX of the TEN events over the span of the year, would earn a KKRS AWARD, and prize pack, to be presented in late November.
Eligibility
Anyone of age can run any race. You don’t have to be a KRRA MEMBER.
To be eligible for the KKRS end-of-season awards, runners MUST be a KRRA member.
Age eligibility: 5yrs to 12yrs old.
The cost for each kids running events will be between $10. or more depending on the organization.
the $10 fee will cover the cost of the finisher ribbon, chip timing, and possibly partial contribution to cover costs of medals for KKRS award recipients.
Any race director concerned the KKRS may increase event participation to unmanageable numbers, is encouraged to put a cap on their particular event.
Benefits
One incentive for runners to complete all races, will be the ribbon designs. Each ribbon will be unique, and all ribbons will connect such that – receiving the complete ribbon set will create an attractive continual / connected graphic illustration, when placed side-by-side.
The added benefits from introducing the KKRS, is consistency with ribbons, validation of the cost increase which will now include chip timing, and bringing more families into the KRRA membership family.
The side benefits are: increased visibility for the KRRA, increase in runner participation, potential for sponsorship expansion… but most importantly: lots more reason for young people to run.
