KRRA member and competitive runner Kevin Bates is this year’s winner of the 2014 KRRA High School Bursary. Kevin is a graduate of Regiopolis-Notre Dame Secondary School. He has been running competitively since 2010, participating in cross country, track and a number of KRRA road races. Kevin has represented Regiopolis at KASSAA, East Regionals as well as OFSAA. He placed first in the KRRA under 20 male category and in 2013 he was the 5th overall male. In addition he has played volleyball, soccer and in the senior concert band at Regiopolis. Highlights include a team bronze at the 2012 OFSAA volleyball finals and a performance at Carnegie Hall with the concert band. Kevin maintained an average over 95% during his high school years. He has volunteered at a number of school and community running events, and in 2014 he supervised long runs at Regiopolis, and served as a volunteer volleyball coach.
Kevin will begin his studies in biomedical engineering at the University of Ottawa in September, 2014. The bursary was presented at The Limestone Mile on Tuesday, July 1, 2014.
